The coconut shy is exactly what the name says: coconuts sit on stands at the back of the stall, players throw balls at them, and a coconut knocked cleanly off its stand is theirs to keep. Coconut shie is the older spelling of the same game. It has been a fixture of British fairs and fetes for generations and it needs no introduction to anyone who approaches it.

How it plays

Each go is a set number of balls. The satisfaction is in the thud of a clean hit and the coconut coming off, and the prize is the coconut itself, which is part of why the game has never needed updating. The throwing distance and the number of balls per go are set for the stall and the audience, and staffing is confirmed with your proposal.

Planning your hire

A coconut shy needs a level pitch with a safe throwing lane and room behind it for a queue, and it works outdoors at almost any event. The stall style and the prize arrangements are confirmed as part of your proposal. With tin can alley and a high striker it makes a traditional games row that people move along from one to the next.
