A Ferris wheel, or big wheel, carries passengers in gondolas around a large vertical wheel. The ride itself is gentle. What people come for is the view: the whole event laid out beneath them, and the surrounding area beyond it.

Why organisers book one

A wheel does two jobs at once. It is a ride with wide appeal, from small children with a parent to grandparents who would not go near a Waltzer, and it is a landmark. Lit up in the evening it can often be seen from well beyond the site, and it tends to end up in the photographs.

What to expect

Ferris wheels come in a wide range of sizes and styles. Some are compact wheels that suit a town square or a school field; others are large wheels with enclosed gondolas that become the centrepiece of a festival. Traditional presentations with painted panels sit naturally alongside vintage attractions, and modern wheels with programmable lighting suit a contemporary event. Not every wheel is a giant observation wheel, and we will match the scale of the wheel to the scale of your event.

Planning your hire

Height is the first practical question. Overhead lines, tree canopies and nearby buildings all matter, and the ground beneath the wheel needs to be firm and level. Access for the transport, room to build the wheel, and where it will sit in relation to your site plan are all things we work through with you. The exact space and access requirements depend on the wheel supplied, and we confirm them as part of your proposal.
