A carousel is a rotating roundabout with decorated mounts, most often horses. On traditional gallopers the horses rise and fall as the ride turns, which is where the name comes from. Merry-go-round, carousel and gallopers all describe the same family of ride, and we quote it under whichever you use.

What to expect

It suits a broad audience. Small children ride with a parent beside them, couples ride together at a wedding, and the ride is gentle enough for people who would not go near a thrill ride. The painted panels, the mirrors and the lighting also make it a natural backdrop for photographs.

Carousels exist in several forms. There are genuine antique machines, faithful traditional reproductions, modern rides in the traditional style, and steam-driven examples. We will not assume you need an antique or a steam engine unless the brief calls for it, and we will be clear about what is being proposed.

Planning your hire

A carousel needs a level pitch and access for the vehicle that brings it, and it takes a while to build, so where it sits on your site plan is worth deciding early. Its size, the number of mounts and who can ride depend on the particular carousel supplied, and we confirm all of that as part of your proposal.

If the look of your event matters, this is the ride to start with, alongside a Ferris wheel or a helter skelter from the same traditional family.
