Listed under Funfair Rides and Traditional & Vintage Rides.

Riders sit in individual chairs hung by chains from a rotating structure. As the ride turns, the chairs swing outwards and carry their riders around above the platform, and on many machines the top of the ride tilts as it spins so the chairs rise and dip in a wave. Chair-O-Planes, flying chairs, chair swing and Wave Swinger all refer to this family of ride.

What to expect

The feeling is closer to flying than to spinning. It is exhilarating without being aggressive, which gives it a wider audience than most rides with this much movement. Traditional Chair-O-Planes have painted panels and a period look that suits heritage events; larger modern Wave Swingers have programmed lighting and a taller profile that shows up across a festival site. Both are in this catalogue entry, and we will propose whichever fits the event rather than assuming every version is vintage.

Planning your hire

Because the chairs swing outwards in operation, the ride needs clear space around it as well as beneath it, and nothing overhead. The ground should be level and the access route wide enough for the transport. Size, capacity and who can ride vary from one machine to the next, so these are confirmed for the particular ride supplied rather than published here.
