Swing boats are one of the oldest rides on the fairground: boat-shaped seats hung in a frame, swung backwards and forwards by the riders themselves pulling on a rope. The children's version brings the same idea down to a scale that suits younger riders, with smaller boats and a gentler swing.

What to expect

Two children sit facing each other and make the boat swing as high as they dare, which is most of the fun. There is no motor and no ride cycle, and the pace is set by the riders, so it suits toddlers with a parent alongside as well as older children on their own. Many swing boats are painted and lettered in the classic style, which is why this entry is also listed under Traditional & Vintage Rides.

Planning your hire

Swing boats take up little room compared with most rides and need only level ground and space for the frame and a queue. The number of boats, their size and how they are supervised depend on the set supplied, and we confirm the details as part of your proposal. They are a natural pairing with the tea cups and a toy set roundabout in a children's area, and they suit a village fete or a wedding on their own.
