The Freak Out is a large pendulum ride. A group of riders sits in a passenger assembly at the end of a long arm, facing outwards. The arm swings higher and higher through the cycle while the seating assembly rotates, so riders are carried up to the top of each swing and spun as they come back down. The name is most associated with the KMG Freak Out, and other manufacturers build rides on the same principle.

What to expect

This is a headline thrill ride, the kind that gives a festival or a large fair its silhouette. The height of the swing is the draw, and the rotation on top of it is what makes the ride unpredictable. It is a ride for thrill-seekers, and it draws spectators around its fence as well as riders. Seat counts, the exact arrangement of the gondolas and the ride programme differ between machines, so we describe the ride proposed rather than promising one manufacturer's specification.

Planning your hire

A Freak Out is among the largest rides in the catalogue. It needs a substantial, level pitch, a wide access route for heavy transport, clear space around the full swing of the arm and nothing overhead. It also takes time to build, so arrival and set-up need planning into your schedule. Rider restrictions are set for the individual ride and confirmed in your proposal. Where access is uncertain, a site visit before booking is the sensible route, and we can arrange one.
